Top Five Steps To Internet Marketing Success In 2010

My plan to maximize results in the New Year took a little longer than expected. But reflecting on last years activity, and reading all the gurus’ first of the year announcements made it worth the wait.

Now that I am done reviewing results let me help you.

If your dream is to launch an internet site to market your business, or to improve the results from your current site, read on.

I’ve received some 1000 emails from the top internet marketers telling me/us what we have to do this year and the list varies as widely as the number of marketers. Buy this, buy that, must have this tool, can’t live without that tool.

It’s the basics that work and unless they are in place, Save Your Money!

I want to make it short and sweet and as direct as possible, so here goes:

1. Research and find a niche that sells well online, Clickbank selling other people’s products or selling your own, but become an expert.

2. Automate your sites, autoresponders, list captures, downloaders.

3. Use article marketing, blogs and forums full of useful content to establish your expertise. Learn how to use back links.

4. Promote yourself and your sites using social media, Twitter, You Tube Videos, Facebook, uStream, podcasts.

5. Narrow your focus, apply yourself, diligently follow a routine.

10.) Go Live By Publishing On Internet

Listed above are the first ten steps for starting a business online. Each one of them has several more steps to complete. As an example, #8, Setting up an email list capture system, has 15 things to do, each with it’s own subset of steps. Use it as a quick checklist to save time getting your business up and running. If you are already in business off line and you want to go online, you follow the same steps but for you Step #6 may already be done in the form of existing brochures, press releases and other media.

Top Ten List – Internet Marketing Methods…As Used By Entrepreneurs*

1.) Email Marketing
2.) Social Media Marketing
3.) Blogging
4.) Affiliate Marketing
5.) Article Marketing
6.) Forum Posting
7.) SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
8.) Link Building
9.) Press Releases
10.) CPA (Cost Per Action)

This list is only ten of the thirty marketing methods researched. It is intended to provide an internet marketing novice with the most popular methods being used. (a complete list is available to my subscribers)

Existing online published articles are confusing, since every term even remotely similar to the word method is used interchangeably even though the meanings differ. Terms used to describe the above list included tactics, examples, techniques, ways, systems, strategies, practices….and more.

In my experience when setting up a good marketing business plan, it’s best to require clarity, and distinguish between the words strategy and method. Choosing the correct term helps to organize your thoughts. A strategy is used to achieve a goal, using methods chosen from the above list. Choosing the right word for the practices being used establishes a clear “how to” outline to follow…step 1, step 2, step 3, and so on. Hence, the list above is “the top ten methods”. I hope it helps towards your success.

List of Online Marketing Tools- An Overview

This post is about the basics. It is for the novice, the “newbie”. It is a list of the online tools and how they relate to each other. It’s purpose is to quickly give you an understanding of the online flow of data and it’s use. Sort of the elevator speech, but in a very tall building. This is making money online in a nutshell.

Marketing your business on the Internet is all about building a relationship with those people with whom you share common interests.

Your initial focus is building a list of people who want to know what you know. The methods used to build this list are many, but the two main ones are through signups by people who visit your online web log or “blog” and people from whom you have captured their email contact information by directing the initial contact through a capture or “squeeze” page.

Generating traffic is the difficult part and being able to do it successfully determines whether or not your online experience will be profitable or not.
Common methods used to generate traffic follow a successful model where you establish a web presence in the form of a blog with content you generate about your products. You submit this information to the Search Engines using acceptable methods. You also review other web logs where topics related to your product niche are discussed and you participate in those discussions by giving authoritative input in the form of comments. Your signature block contains a link back to your page.

Squeeze or “capture” page traffic is generated by creating informative products in the form of Videos, Podcasts, Webinars, Press Releases, Forums, and Articles about your niche, then publishing them in the appropriate places on the web. Interested parties are all sent to your opt-in list through your capture form.

You then begin to develop a relationship with your list via email initiated interactions such as frequent mailings, online events, surveys, etc.

You offer them your own products, other peoples products, and information transfer services such as consulting, training, or public speaking; all of course based on your skill set and level of expertise.

I’ll go into more detail on each of these items individually in other posts. I will also put up a flow chart as a visual aid
