How To Add Tags and Categories After The Fact

Have you ever gotten so deep into working on a project that your thoughts just begin to run together? Or how about all the new information blending into a mass of confusion? I was putting together an article to submit and got stalled on keywords, categories and tags. So stupid, but it happened. I did a quick Google search of those three words and found some very useful information. Click here to read how to add tags and categories after the fact. Very helpful…. the info came from Word Press dot com not Word Press dot org.

Categories and tags apply only to blog posts and if the information I read at the above link was correct, they apply only to WordPress. Keywords of course apply to everything you write if you are hoping to get traffic from the information you provide.

How To Read Google Adwords Results

As returning readers know, we launched a product using internet marketing as it’s sole means of promotion as a trial by fire to prove internet marketing methods really do work. This quick look at the progress is for 2 complete days, April 23rd and 24th, 2010. Google provides a number of interesting ways to look at the results on an advertising campaign. Their summary page is what I am going to present here.

My initial budget was $150 for one month or $5.00 per day.
The activity summary for two days is:

20 clicks out of 19,283 times the ad was shown,

resulting in a (CTR) click through rate of 0.10%

at an average (CPC) cost per click of $0.60 each.

The (CPM) cost per 1000 ads shown is $0.62 for

total two-day cost of $11.96.

Quality Score is 7 out of 10, no too bad but could be improved.

This activity resulted in one sale totaling $8.00.

A study of the Stat-Counter.com metrics recorded 7 visits from this one buyers ip address before making a purchase. The purchase was from the Midwest, the core of the original 1968 sales area. The demographic is female age 27-45.
Traffic came from all over the globe, including Canada, Australia and Great Britain.

During this re-launching of the op-yop toy, (a former 2 million-unit seller), it has become obvious that anything can be sold via the Internet. What it requires, is combining the right product, with a marketing plan using all the various available methods.

The degree of success is determined partly by the commitment to follow up and follow through. Remember to promote, promote, promote.

Google Adwords Dismal For Product Launch

It may be too early to determine absolutely, but the results from the Ad Words setup at Google has delivered dismal results. The last week of activity has a flat line graph showing no clicks, no percent served. There are volumes of help folders, you tube videos, and a self serving forum that provides indirect answers and a referral to their help pages running you around in a circle. One search question we asked was how to create an ad campaign using three ads, with the same keywords (a commonly recommended ad test). The result returned was referring to an A/B Test, but not how to set it up or execute one. I am intentionally NOT publishing the adwords we used, to avoid sending my readers chasing the ads and clicking on them without purchasing anything, which just runs up the google bill. The first day with one ad running, there were no clicks. The second day we received 4 clicks, Days 3 through 10 we received no clicks. Our quality score is now 7/10 also According to Google, not too bad. We have tried all the Google recommendations we can find to improve results, but nothing has worked. It appears as if our ad is parked somewhere. Google could take a lesson from us and make a process flow chart or checklist; no matter how large this check list would be, and time consuming the set-up might be, if it assured results it would be worth the effort (An Ad Words set-up checklist created by me and will be shared in the members section with subscribers.)

We are getting some site traffic, but not via google. Most from Yahoo as a result of the ezine article that was published. Many people who saw the ebay listing have also found the web site at http://www.op-yop.com. I congratulate them on finding it since the ebay listing did not contain a reference to the opyop site.
Overall, the google campaign does not seem suitable for do-it your-selfers. At this point, the only way to make google ads effective is for the op-yop name to go viral. (visit http:/www.opyop.com)

Ezine Article Chronicles Early Progress

One of the effective and long lasting methods of getting traffic to your site is article marketing. As I had promised in my earlier blog, The Op-Yop Is Back I will do an update from time to time on the progress of the product launch. This time the update comes in the form of an article published online. One of the steps in generating traffic without paying Google for their help is submitting articles to the online article publishing sites. Part of the promotion of the op-yop, submitting an article, also happens to be a way of getting traffic back to this site. Check out my recently published article I submitted to ezinearticles.com: Do The Various Internet Marketing Techniques Really Work? It chronicles the steps I have taken so far in marketing and promoting the op-yop toy. After reading the linked article you will understand the steps taken to get to the current point in our Op-yop Launch progress. The article focuses on the “free tools” aspects of getting online. Because part of my consulting mission is to work with small businesses to establish their online identity and capture their off-line niche, online. And Free sounds real good to small business people. Hopefully, after reading several of my blog posts you will see how inter-related all the different methods of promoting are to each other and to gaining a successful foothold on line. This QuickTips blog promotes online marketing, one method is article marketing, which the linked article mentions the op-yop which links to the blog which has links to the www.op-yop.com site. Completing a full circle of links and back links takes time, but the exposure continues to grow with time. Read some of the comments received and you should notice they come from around the globe, from people who enjoy the free information. For my readers, there really is someone like you, hovering over the keyboard, awaiting the opportunity to become friends through the magic of email. One of the observations I want to pass along relates to working from home and getting rich overnight. My truth is that it hasn’t happened to me, but it can happen to you. By following the recommended steps and habitually going on line and following through, over time, traffic builds. Things start “clicking”. The money begins to come in from people who have grown to trust your advice. It is possible to build a business working from your home computer. It is simple…stick to the basics until you are well established, absorb how an overall marketing plan works, and have the discipline to follow through. Now spend some money. Seek out one of the people who have the tools you need and aren’t trying to sell you instant anything. Then invest some money in a proven, money back program. I receive email almost daily from many of the online giants. Each of them has tweaked a certain aspect of the daily routine to make a success of themselves. Their money comes from selling you their product and telling you how to do what they have done. That is how they make their money. You have to copy them and do the same thing. Top Five Steps To Internet Marketing Success In 2010

My plan to maximize results in the New Year took a little longer than expected. But reflecting on last years activity, and reading all the gurus’ first of the year announcements made it worth the wait.

Now that I am done reviewing results let me help you.

If your dream is to launch an internet site to market your business, or to improve the results from your current site, read on.

I’ve received some 1000 emails from the top internet marketers telling me/us what we have to do this year and the list varies as widely as the number of marketers. Buy this, buy that, must have this tool, can’t live without that tool.

It’s the basics that work and unless they are in place, Save Your Money!

I want to make it short and sweet and as direct as possible, so here goes:

1. Research and find a niche that sells well online, Clickbank selling other people’s products or selling your own, but become an expert.

2. Automate your sites, autoresponders, list captures, downloaders.

3. Use article marketing, blogs and forums full of useful content to establish your expertise. Learn how to use back links.

4. Promote yourself and your sites using social media, Twitter, You Tube Videos, Facebook, uStream, podcasts.

5. Narrow your focus, apply yourself, diligently follow a routine.

Time To Re-Evaluate Your Market Niche

There are off line businesses going into bankruptcy everywhere. In a time of prosperity, people rush to buy the latest electronic gadget or to get the latest bath accessories, one for each change of the season. So, your market niche may have done well when the economy was doing well, but now you’ve noticed a down tick in purchases. What’s going on? Don’t assume that this is a product of the economic recession; instead, be proactive and try to determine what factors are affecting your sales. It could be the economy, but it could also be various other factors: A shifting demographic, poor sales strategies that don’t work in a downturn, or bad or no advertising campaign.

Shifting Demographics

When you set up your business, you probably had a good idea of what demographic you wanted to serve. With the recession, the demographic you serve may have had shifts in their income level or even living situations. Take a look at the boomer generation. They are experiencing an epic shift in their income as they retire, with battered retirement accounts from poor market results. Even though you could rely on this demographic to purchase certain products and services as they continued to dominate the market, this may not be true in the future. So, you need to re-evaluate the demographics that you are serving in your market niche.

Sales Strategies

Running the same promotions with worse results? That’s not really surprising considering that the psychology of the market place has changed dramatically and that the consumer may not be in a buying mood for a while. Before the recession, status was a great psychological trigger to use to create a buying opportunity. The same trigger is somewhat meaningless in a downturn unless you are marketing to the very rich. The biggest strategy for the downturn is going to be value offers; you need to make sure that many of your strategies reflect a trigger for value.

Bad or No Advertising Campaigns

The immediate impulse of business owners in a downturn is to stop throwing money at advertising since there are fewer buyers. This is a mistake and can be a self-fulfilling prophecy for poor sales later on. So, if you haven’t evaluated your advertising campaign, you need to do that now. Look at where you are advertising, what psychological triggers and sales strategies you are using, and whether you can provide value offers that put you ahead of the competition during this tough economy.

Top Ten List – Internet Marketing Methods…As Used By Entrepreneurs*

1.) Email Marketing
2.) Social Media Marketing

7.) SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
8.) Link Building

This list is only ten of the thirty marketing methods researched. It is intended to provide an internet marketing novice with the most popular methods being used. (a complete list is available to my subscribers)

Existing online published articles are confusing, since every term even remotely similar to the word method is used interchangeably even though the meanings differ. Terms used to describe the above list included tactics, examples, techniques, ways, systems, strategies, practices….and more.

In my experience when setting up a good marketing business plan, it’s best to require clarity, and distinguish between the words strategy and method. Choosing the correct term helps to organize your thoughts. A strategy is used to achieve a goal, using methods chosen from the above list. Choosing the right word for the practices being used establishes a clear “how to” outline to follow…step 1, step 2, step 3, and so on. Hence, the list above is “the top ten methods”. I hope it helps towards your success.

Pinging My Blog

For those readers who have never started a blog or gone deeply into promoting one, there is a “geek phrase” that just begs for 15 minutes of fame, or the next addition to American slang. It is not important what it means, it just sounds so useful.

It’s the term “ping your blog”. Say it again. Ping your blog. Doesn’t it just conjure up double meanings? It just rolls off your tongue; sort of begs to be repeated; pinging your blog, pinging my blog, pinging their blog. Something to proudly add to the noise level while having a beer with friends: “I got my blog pinged today!.”

Does it already hold double meanings and it just hasn’t hit the mainstream yet? Is it legal? Can you stand in your front yard and “ping your blog”? Is the term something for proper use in casual conversation such as…”the other day while pinging my blog”, or “Can you hold on a minute? I’m pinging my blog”. I can imagine George Carlin’s seesaw way of saying it: “pingingggg yoouurr blogggggg!!!!!!”

There was an old 1950′s game show called “What’s My Line” (you can find it on YouTube), where the panelists were blindfolded and had to ask up to 10 questions to guess a mystery guest’s identity. The questions asked, for “pinging my blog”, would be like these: “Are you well known for having this ability? Is it something you invented? Is this something you would do at home? Is it more frequently done in the daytime or at night? Do you have to pay to have it done? Is it a group activity?”

Alright, enough, but before today I can’t remember “pinging my blog” or having it pinged.

Seriously, after you have set up your blog and want to let the world know, go to www.pingomatic.com. Complete the three or four questions on the first page and hit enter and you are done.
